The Importance of "Going Back to Basics"

Today's story reflects a very common experience among many of my students and clients. Perhaps it's your story too?

Mónica had been studying English for many years in various language schools before joining my program and community. Under the language school systems, her English seemed to improve and she was motivated to continue, but after a short time, she noticed that although she was advancing in levels, she wasn't really learning anything new. Although she had completed an Advanced level, she continued to feel stuck, and worse than that, expressing herself in English still created a great deal of anxiety and frustration, especially as she was looking for career advancement and applying for a new job, which involved English-speaking interviewing processes.

Mónica and I have spent a lot of time together in my program, and she has worked hard to implement and incorporate its user-friendly guidelines into her day-to-day life.

It takes determination, as well as the diligent, patient (and enjoyable!) training of our mind to make true progress in English, because an unchecked, "wild" mind pushes us forward whether we're ready for the next level or not, in an effort to attain more, more and more. But "more" is not always helpful. Have you heard the saying, "Less is more?"

Mind training to stop and calm our mind in order to gain clarity and understanding by going back to basics is a wonderful way of recalling and consolidating familiar but not yet fully assimilated English, and the great news is that this continuous practice (and many others!) are part of my English development program.

Listen to what Mónica had to say during one of our recent interactions. If you also struggle to express yourself naturally, fluently and confidently in English, I am here for you.

Let's chat about where you are with English today and where you want to be in 6 months, and we'll determine, together, the best path ahead for you. I'm looking forward to having the opportunity to support you!
