How to Create a Great 30-Day Action Plan for Independent English Learning
I'm very excited to be sharing today's video with you because I know how helpful it'll be!
A little story for you: I've been a teacher of English-as-a-foreign-language to adults for many years now, and it is always the case that courses and lessons are set up in such a way that little or no attention is given to planning and teaching the learners to be more autonomous.
The reason for this isn't that teaching centres don't consider planning and autonomous learning important, (they absolutely do!), but because it's taken for granted that clients will know what to do and how to plan their days while they take a course in such a way that English is included beyond the classroom lessons.
After all, this is what clients want, right? To use English in their own contexts. This is why they signed up for lessons in the first place, to be able to "take English with them" to their personal, professional and academic activities.
And yet this is where there is great gap, because while the role of teaching centres is to deliver English lessons, most adult English learners do not necessarily know how to transfer the English of the classroom into their day-to-day activities. What is more, most learners are unaware that this is in fact a necessary step towards becoming a fluent, relaxed and self-assured English user.
The result of this gap is a clear division in people's minds - a misperception, if you will - a sense of separation between themselves and English. English is viewed as "over there", something outside themselves that is studied from a distance, like a geologist might study a rock formation. The geologist becomes knowledgeable about rock formations, but rock formations have no practical use in the geologist's life.
This is why I created my English coaching programme: to complement any English lessons you might be taking and to help those of you who want to make progress on your own more effectively. If this sounds like you, then you really must watch today's video, and implement the plan.
Afterwards, contact me and let me know how it went!
OK?
